self driving cars

Self driving cars

what is a self driving cars ?

Its a car that drives by its own

what is this made for ?

This car is made to get more security when driving and also resolves many problems when traveling such as these ones :

driving for a long time: some times the places we want to go are to far and driving to there could get us tired but now with this there is no need to get tired and also you will be safe so next time with this car you could take a nap and there is no worries.

Security : this car is made to make all people safe and to get a better experience when driving , by saying that the cars is configurated with all the thing you need to be safe , from parking to taking you where you want.

Everybody could use it: it is as simple as turning it on and that is it also these is good news for old people or people with some problems because they dont have to worry any more and it will be easier to travel for them and example is my grandmother she dosent know how to drive and it is more complicated for her to travel but now with this it will be more easier .

How does this work ?

The most recognized self driving car is the google one and you may ask how it works ?
Well it work and drive alone with a sensor on top of the car and two small sensors at the sides this sensors have all the knowledge to know when to park and when to drive slows or fast , this car also has a heat sensor to know if some one is moving in front or not .

How we know this car is safe

This car has been tested on many pleases such as mexico , usa and more , also this car has been tested on many circumstances that almost all drivers pass trough and nailed all does tests .

Who was the inventor

this project was made by the google x as a part of their electric cars project .

Technology

the self driving car is an equipment to make this possible and some of the cars that where use to make the tests where toyota prius , audi tt and liux rx450h.
Google has also developed their own custom vehicle, which is assembled by roush enterprises and uses equipment from bozch, zf lenksysteme, lg, and continental .
Google's robotic cars have about $150,000 in equipment including a $70,000 sys lidar tem. The range finder mounted on the top is a velodyne 64-beam laser. This laser allows the vehicle to generate a detailed 3D map of its environment. The car then takes these generated maps and combines them with high-resolution maps of the world, producing different types of data models that allow it to drive itself. As of June 2014, the system works with a very high definition inch-precision map of the area the vehicle is expected to use, including how high the traffic lights are; in addition to on-board systems, some computation is performed on remote computer farms.

limitations

As of August 28, 2014, according to computer world Google's self-driving cars were in fact unable to use about 99% of US roads. As of the same date, the latest prototype had not been tested in heavy rain or snow due to safety concerns.
Because the cars rely primarily on pre-programmed route data, they do not obey temporary traffic lights and, in some situations, revert to a slower "extra cautious" mode in complex unmapped intersections.

Commercialization

In October 2010, an attorney for the california department of vehicles raised concerns that he technology is ahead of the law in many areas, citing state laws that all presume to have a human being operating the vehicle.

According to a May 2011 article in the new york times , policy makers and regulators have argued that new laws will be required if driverless vehicles are to become a reality because "the technology is now advancing so quickly that it is in danger of outstripping existing law, some of which dates back to the era of horse-drawn carriages and In 2012 Google founder Sergey Brin stated that Google Self-Driving car will be available for the general public in 2017.

in 2014 this schedule was updated by project director Chris Urmson to indicate a possible release from 2017 to 2020. Google has partnered with suppliers including Bosch, ZF Lenksysteme, LG, Continental, and Roush, and has contacted manufacturers including general motors , ford, Toyota (including lexus ), Daimler and volkswagen.

Future plans

on may Google revealed a new prototype of its driverless car, which had no steering wheel, gas pedal, or brake pedal, being 100% autonomous

my opinion

my opinion is that this car is the future , and this idea is aswame I mean this is really cool and the best part is that it solves a lot of problems on this days like the contamination by using rechargeable batteries and also for old people it is going to be much easier
fun fact : ford actually where the first producers of energy cars but it was to expensive to make so they started to use normal gas motors .

Price

they are actually very expensive or they will be there is not a final price because is not even out yet but we know the equipment to build this cost like $150,000 plus 70000 dollars.

How fast will it go

really fast actually and when making the tests the car hit total of 170,000 miles; of those, 126,000 miles were driven autonomously thats really amazing actually .
